Michael L. Tushman

Michael L. Tushman is a Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School. He conduct research on the relations between technological change, executive leadership, and organization adaptation, as well as innovation streams and organization design. He is the author of Lead and Disrupt: Solving the Innovator's Dilemma (with Charles O'Reilly).

He is currently the faculty co-chair (with Charles O'Reilly) of the Leading Change and Organizational Renewal Executive Program and chair of the Program for Leadership Development at Harvard Business School. His outside work focuses on innovation, senior teams, and leading change. He work on these issues with CEOs and senior teams around the world. His consulting work is done through Change Logic, a firm he founded with Charles O'Reilly from Stanford GSB.

Previously, he was on the faculty of the Graduate School of Business, Columbia University and he has been a visiting professor at MIT and INSEAD.

He hold degrees from Northeastern University (B.S.E.E.), Cornell University (M.S.), and the Sloan School of Management at M.I.T. (Ph.D.). He was named a Fellow of the Academy of Management in 1996, and most recently, he was awarded the Academy of Management's Career Achievement Award for Distinguished Scholarly Contributions to Management as well as the 2013 Academy of Management Review Decade Award for his paper with Mary J. Benner, "Exploitation, Exploration and Process Management: The Productivity Dilemma Revisited". He is also the recipient of the 2013 Apgar Award for Innovation in Teaching.
