Annie Brooking

Annie Brooking is the managing director and founder of Shooting Star Ltd. Brooking founded and managed Europe's first industrial artificial intelligence research and consulting group — The Knowledge Based Systems Centre — in the UK. She has served as a consultant to the European Commission in Brussels on Advanced Information for twelve years.

She is also an international lecturer and consultant on a number of topics, including:

Annie's best selling book Intellectual Capital: Core Asset for Third Millennium Enterprise (1996) was the world's first publication to explore the subject of intangible assets. Her most recent work Corporate Memory: Strategies for Knowledge Management (International Thomson, 1998) is the first in a five book series examining each dimension of knowledge management and a practical tool for creating successful strategies. She is also co-author of 2 books and numerous papers on artificial intelligence and innovation topics, including guest editor on the Journal of Knowledge Management.

Brooking completed graduate studies in computer science at Brunel University in the UK. She has lived in the UK, Malta, Australia and the US. In 1983, she designed the first successful advanced information-processing project for the CEC's project ESPRIT, a methodology for the design of knowledge-based systems. She has held management and executive positions at Sun Microsystems Inc. and at Symbolics Inc. in the USA, where she directed the marketing group and was responsible for the successful negotiation of multi-million dollar strategic alliances. She has had extensive international consulting experience with both start-up companies and billion dollar corporations on both management and technical issues.
