Clifford Stoll is an astronomer by training and computer security expert by accident. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 1980 and has since then worked as an astronomer, scientific programmer and computer systems manager in various observatories and laboratories. He is now an astronomer at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
