John Doerr is chairman of venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins, formerly called Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
He joined the firm in 1980 after working at Intel and cofounding two companies.
Kleiner is one of Silicon Valley's most storied firms, having backed Amazon, AOL, Compaq, Electronic Arts, Google, Netscape and Twitter.
Doerr famously led Kleiner into Google in 1999, investing $12.5 million and transforming it into billions when Google went public in 2004.
Doerr stepped down from his role leading the firm in March 2016, ceding the leadership to fellow investor Ted Schlein.
John and Ann Doerr lives in Woodside, California.
John has B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Rice University as well as an MBA from Harvard Business School
John has several patents for computer memory devices and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
