Michael Thomas

The internationally recognized marketing leader, author and speaker Michael Thomas. He lives in Glasgow, Scotland and has served as chairman of Europe's largest marketing department at the University of Strathclyde. Thomas is the chairman of the prestigious British-based Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). Founded in 1911, the CIM has more than 50,000 members and 50 branches (similar to AMA chapters) and has developed the world's leading certification and professional development programs for marketers. Besides speaking throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America, Thomas had five marketing books published in 1995: The Marketing Handbook (Gower), Pocket Guide to Marketing (The Economist & Basil Blackwell), Modern Marketing Management (Penguin), International Marketing Management (Houghton Mifflin) and The Marketing Digest (Heinmann). In addition he contributed to The Marketing Book (Heinmann) and The Handbook of Market Research Techniques (Kogan Press).

He's the editor of the quarterly Marketing Intelligence and Planning and serves on the editorial boards of eight leading marketing publications and journals. One of the many journal articles he published last year is titled The Relevance of Global Branding," written with J. Bureau and N. Saxena for The Journal of Brand Management.

Thomas has been a marketing pioneer and leader in Poland, where he established and guided the Gdansk Managers Training Foundation. In 1994, Poland's President Lech Walesa awarded Thomas the Commanders Cross of the Polish Order of Merit.

As a Fulbright Fellow in 1956-57 at Indiana University, Thomas obtained an MBA. Now he travels to the USA regularly as a consultant and speaker. Eloquent and witty, Thomas will fill your mind with profitable and interesting marketing thoughts.
