While external knowledge — about customers, about competitors — is critical, it rarely provides a competitive edge for companies because such information is equally available to everyone. This is one of the best books on KM I have ever read!

In my opinion, Dixon is the Mintzberg of KM! Do I need to add that I wholeheartedly recommend this? No? I demand that you read it, as it is very far away from Nonaka's et. al. theoretical posturing and very down to earth (and with easy proven logic as well).
